The New Year!
Happy New Year to all!
I hope that you all had a wonderful and restful break and are now ready to get back to work!
We are already working hard at getting our band chops back in shape and as such, have already had one practice log turned in. Please make sure that you are paying attention to the fact that practice logs are due every Monday. Your practice log grade will be lowered automatically for turning it in late.
Remember, I am available NEARLY EVERY DAY after school to answer questions and provide help! Come on in and get your practicing done here if you'd like!
Announcements
What a great concert!
The 5th graders had a wonderful first band performance on December 5th. We played some great music and were also able to watch them perform again in the 5th grade choir. All three of the choirs, 3rd through 5th grade, also did a wonderful job! We are continuing to practice and learn more about our instruments and music as we wind up the fall semester before break. After winter break, the schedule will continue as it has before the break, but I would like the percussionists to begin bringing their snare drums as well as their bell kits. We are going to begin working on drum technique, and I know that they are excited for that!
Have a great holiday break!
5th Grade Band Concert!
Dear 5th Grade Band Parents,
I would like to invite you to join us for your child’s first concert of their long and successful band career on December 5, 2011 at 7pm in the KHS Auditorium! We have been learning lots about our instruments and how to play them this fall and are excited to show you all what we can do.
Band is a complete team effort, and dressing alike is something that enhances this aspect of the activity. This attire will be the standard attire for the rest of your child’s public school band career. I encourage you to refer back to the band handbook you signed at the beginning of the year for the guidelines of this concert attire. These guidelines are also listed below. On the night of the 5th, your child needs to be in the high school band room ready to play at 6:30pm for what will be a great night and concert!
Black slacks or nice pants
White collared shirt
Girls may wear skirt or dress, must be below the knee and have no color, only black and white
Closed toed nice black shoes
Thank you for your continued support of your child’s blossoming band career!
Week of November 7
5th Grade Band Members and Parents,
Remember that this week we will begin having all band students come to class every day. This will enable us to begin moving on towards preparing for our concert on December 5th!
On the subject of our concert, please check that you have your attire prepared for the concert. Attire includes black pant and white collared shirt for men and either a nice mostly black dress (some white is allowed) or black pants and white blouse for ladies. All students should have nice all black closed toed shoes. As always, please contact me with any questions.

Practice Sheets
Remember to turn in your practice logs whenever you have band class first in the week. For some of you this will be Monday, but for most it will be another day of the week. Practice a little bit every day is much better than practicing all at once on the weekend. It allows you to take a break so that you don't get so tired. Remember the TV practice tip that I told you all about! (Mute the commercials and play long tones!) You are all doing a great job, and I'm looking forward to playing some great music!
